Hana is the Japanese word for flower, so it is easy to see why we would name this piece Hana. The field of this carpet is made up of many delicate flowers, as well as an underlying leaf and tendril design. Another unique aspect of this rug is the border. We wanted to design this carpet as close as possible to a floral garden, therefore using a Japanese walkway motif in the border.

Nanking now called Nanjing is a city on the eastern coast of China. Because of its location Nanking was a major exporting city, silk being one of the largest. Yun-Jin or, “Cloud Brocade”, silk was and still is one of the most popular silks in the market today. We used this Cloud Brocade idea in our Nanking carpet. Many of the motifs in the carpet are depicting the same cloud motifs used in the famous Yun-Jin silks.
